Student Insurance UK
Did you know the one in four students in the UK is a victim of crime? If you would know that statistic, you would definitely want to insure your property against crime, especially if you are living on campus, where petty theft can be rife. It's hard enough paying for tuition and books and housing, let alone having to worry about replacing a stolen computer or stereo. Many insurance companies now offer very affordable students insurance to protect students against such incidents.

Student insurance is sometimes only available for your possessions, but can cover things like medical emergencies, credit card fraud, computers, university fees, death of parent, bicycles, telephones and much more. It just depends on what kind of coverage you are looking for. Also, it makes sense to talk to you parents to see if any existing insurance policy they have on their home or possessions will cover any of your possessions. One thing you don't want to do is get duplicate coverage, as you can only claim once for any given event.
For content insurance, some insurance companies will not differentiate between those students living in halls of residence or rented accommodations. But either way, having a good lock on your door and limiting access from the outside to your room or flat through a window or balcony may help reduce your premium payments - the more secure your place, the less likelihood of a theft occurring and the better risk you are to an insurance company. When you are looking at contents insurance and you have something specific that you would like to have coverage for, such as a laptop, desktop computer, scanner, digital camera or printer, make sure you mention this to your insurance company. Some policies will only cover such items to a stated maximum and in some cases only a combines coverage for all electronics items. This means that if your computer, for example, is more valuable than the maximum amount on your policy, then you will not be able to replace it with the same model, if it is stolen and the insurance company makes a pay-out to you. Most insurers will allow you to increase a pre-set maximum limit for an item or items, you may just have to pay a little extra. But this way, you get the coverage that best suits your needs.
